Buckle yourself into your seat and hang on as you start a bobsled ride through the Swiss mountain Matterhorn. Keep a hold on your handrails as your sled whips around corners and lifts and dips through ice caves. Remember to watch out for Yetis!
Disneyland’s Matterhorn is a 147 ft snow-covered mountain modeled after a real mountain in Switzerland, standing between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. You begin by selecting which side of the mountain to get in line on, a seemingly trivial choice which actually means the difference between a fast, short ride or a 30-second longer ride that is a bit slower. For the first, you want to be in the line on the left side (as you face the loading area), for the latter you step in on the right. When you reach your turn to load, you will step into one of two bobsleds that are linked together, each of which has two seats. Each seat can hold up to two adults, one with their back against the seat and one seated in between the legs of their riding partner. (This is where the snuggling part comes in.)
Once loaded and buckled in, your bobsled pulls forward and down a little and then stops briefly at the entrance to a cave. When you are clear, your sled will move into the cave and the ride will begin. You will make your way through the mountain by climbing, dipping, and racing through ice caverns and also around corners outside of the mountain itself. In the caves you will encounter glowing eyes and even a growling abominable snow creature. As you approach the end of the ride your bobsled will splash through a mountain stream before you come to a rest back at the launch area.
