Step inside an antebellum mansion and enter a world filled with life – the afterlife that is. Ghosts abound as you make your way through your tour of the manor and chills await at every turn. While the occupants are generally happy with their habitat, there are a few who are looking for new haunts. You may make it out with your life, but you may not be alone.
The Haunted Mansion is part walk-through attraction, part ride, and all spooky fun. While it is physically appropriate for all ages, it can be scary for some young riders. As you enter the dimly lit mansion, you are directed into an octagonal room with four portraits around the walls above you. When the room has filled with people (it will hold a lot) the door slides closed behind you and the disembodied voice of your tour guide begins your trip. The room is actually an elevator that will lower you to another level of the mansion, and a door on the opposite side of the room opens to let you out.
You continue your tour through a seemingly neglected hallway strewn with cobwebs, where there are more pictures to look at. After rounding the corner you approach the “Doom Buggies,” vehicles which hold two adults or two adults and a small child. The rest of your tour will be taken in the buggy. You load into your buggy by stepping onto a horizontal escalator and then stepping into a vehicle – the buggies are in perpetual motion so move carefully to avoid falling. After in the buggy, the front of the vehicle comes down over your lap and you are conveyed up a ramp and into another room. The Doom Buggies will carry you through several different rooms and scenes in the mansion, from a haunted hallway to a spectral celebration to a spooky séance, with other surprises as well. When your tour is concluded, you will exit the buggy in the same way you entered it, and you will make your way up an escalator and back out into the daylight.
