Climb into a seat aboard a train gone wild. Grab ahold of the bar as you set off on an adventure through the mountains and caves of an old mining town. Be prepared for dips and speeding around curves as you tour a special piece of desert life. And as the man says “Hang on to them hats and glasses, cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!”
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a fast-paced train ride through red-desert scenery based on Utah’s Bryce National Park. As roller coasters go, it is somewhere in the middle as far as speed and thrills. You start your ride by stepping off the wooden platform into an open train car where you stow your loose items in a pouch in front of you and pull down a lap bar to help you keep your seat. Each train car has three rows of two seats. Your train pulls out of the station and you begin your trip with a somewhat quick and rough start as you move towards and into a cave. Here you ascend into the mountain, taking note of pools of illuminated, almost glowing water resting among stalagmites and stalactites.

Don’t let the beauty lull you into a false sense of security, because as you reach the top, you come out into the open air and the train picks up speed rather suddenly as you begin your race through the hills and valleys of Thunder Mountain. During your ride, you will encounter wildlife, crumbling cave walls and ceilings, and even some dinosaur bones. At the end of your trip you pass by an abandoned mining town complete with dance hall before pulling back into the station to disembark.
